Academy Rules and Repertoire

RULES

  1. 14th Trondheim International Chamber Music Academy, TICC Academy 2026, is open to piano trios.

  2. Applications will be accepted from musicians of all nationalities provided the combined maximum age of the trio members as of 1 September 2026 does not exceed 87 years. The age limit for each musician of the trio must be under 34 and over 15 years on 1 September 2026.

  3. Musicians may only enter the Academy as a member of one piano trio.

  4. Musicians are responsible for all travel expenses.

  5. TICC will offer lodging in double hotel rooms, as well as breakfast and two hot meals per day.

  6. The application deadline is 20 April 2026.

  7. The following documents/files must be uploaded in the application:

    1. A copy of passport or similar official document confirming the date and place of birth of each candidate.

    2. Curriculum vitae with particulars of training, awards and diplomas and recent concert appearances of the trio.

    3. Ensemble biography in English. The text should be around 1200 characters.

    4. Two recent professional references.

    5. Two recent digital high-resolution photographs of the trio.

    6. Two recent audio recordings of high quality (WAV, AIFF, FLAC or M4a (Alac), minimum Bitrate 164kbps), of the trio. The recordings should be recorded in one "take" and must not be edited or altered in any way. TICC reserves the right to disqualify applicants entering studio enhanced or modified tapes. Applicants are anonymous to the jury when considered for TICC.

    7. The two recordings should be contrasting movements with a total duration of minimum 12 minutes.

      • Recording one:

        One first movement of a Beethoven piano trio

      • Recording two:

        One movement from the romantic or 20th/21st century repertoire

  8. The recordings must be labeled with the composer’s name (i.e. “Beethoven.wav” or “Schumann.aiff”) before uploading the file to the application. Do not include the ensemble name in the file.

  9. A letter from a teacher or professional musician certifying the authenticity of the recording.

  10. There will be a non-refundable entry fee of EURO 150 per trio which should not be sent before the application has been accepted.

  11. All participants must agree to have their performances recorded, filmed or broadcast on in any medium, live, in whole or in part, in sound, and/or in images. No payment will be made to participants for the recording or broadcasting of the Academy performances.

  12. Rehearsal facilities, including the provision of music stands, will be available to all participants. TICC does not warrant, however, that such facilities will be adequate or meet the requirements of ensembles.

  13. The official language of TICC is English.

REPERTOIRE

  1. Each trio will be required to prepare 1-2 works of free choice of a minimum total duration of 20 minutes.

  2. Each trio will also be expected to prepare works to be played together with the instructors (for example piano quartets, quintets or similar). These works will be announced once the participating trios have been chosen.
